In 2009 we took a year off our regular existence and flew to Los Angeles, purchased a 35 foot motorhome, car and trailer and set off around the United States for twelve months. We visited 32 states, a couple of area in Canada, home-schooled the kids for a year and generally had a fantastic trip. There are many beautiful destinations in the United States.
The national parks are awe-inspiring and the diversity of people across the country is fascinating. As we have told the kids they did more in one year than most get to do in a lifetime so we are immensely grateful that we had the chance to make that trip happen.
It seemed crazy at the time. It was in the thick of the worry about the global financial crisis, the AUS dollar was trading at 60 US cents as a contrast to now at 108 US cents. It was an uncertain time but as we have learnt, taking a step into the unknown is scary but rewarding. Weʼre all on the roller coaster of life, may as well make it a good ride.
